About the instructor: Mikaelyn Teel is a plein air, impressionistic, abstract-style painter with a passion for helping students discover and develop their own natural talent and artistic eye through acrylic painting here at Artascope studio. Some greats she aspires to are Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Maurice de Vlaminck, Henri Matisse. Her work embraces shadows, light, bold and subtle color, emotion, movement, texture, and the beauty of what speaks to her in the moment. She is currently a full-time nursing student at the University of Maine at Augusta and will graduate with her BSN in holistic nursing in 2028. Her goal after graduation is to combine holistic health practices through music, movement, nature, and art therapy.

She is deeply passionate about creativity, self-expression, and building community through art. In this summer course for teens at Artascope, students will explore color theory, composition, value, and acrylic painting while working from real life and reference photos. Most importantly, she wants her classes to feel inspiring, uplifting, encouraging, and full of creative freedom. She truly believes we are all creative, and painting can be one of the most powerful ways to express emotions and feelings when words and the world around us don’t make sense. She can’t wait to meet her future students and paint together this summer!
