Acrylic Techniques 6-week Artist Series – THURSDAY AM

January 20, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Starts January 20th (Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.)

This series changed to ZOOM only as of 1-5-22.

Artists explore basic acrylic painting techniques in a flexible, supportive setting. Color mixing and theories, paint and imagery layering, composition, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation, photo or printed references, and imagination. Contemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up canvas, then develop ideas based on colors from one source and imagery from another (artists’ works, participants’ own photos, project ideas, etc.) All levels are welcome.

Supplies: Contact Alex before purchasing any supplies if you are new to the series.

Non-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200.

NOTE: For the safety of our teachers and students, masks are required inside the studio.

Instructor bio: Alex Rheault is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and writer. She teaches at USM, UNE, and privately. Rheault explores domestic and discarded objects, skyscapes, cars, dreams, memory, and imagination, and is working on a writing project.

Excerpt of student work by Anita Liou (painting in progress, 2021) shown for cover image.
