SUMMARY:Inspired Artists Book Club
DESCRIPTION:“There are moments in our lives\, there are moments in a day\, when we seem to see beyond the usual. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom. If one could but recall his vision by some sort of sign. It was in this hope that the arts were invented. Sign-posts toward greater knowledge.” –Robert Henri \nJoin Artascope Members for our inaugural Inspired Artists Book Club meeting over Zoom on Saturday\, May 3rd at 10am. \nWe will be offering these discussions quarterly. Catherine Bickford\, Executive Director of Artascope\, will assign the reading material and lead the conversation. \nOur first meeting will cover the iconic book\, THE ART SPIRIT\, by American artist Robert Henri. \n \n“In this book are the essential beliefs and theories of a great teacher and American artist\, Robert Henri. While it embodies the entire system of his teaching\, with much technical advice and critical comment for the student\, it also contains inspiration for those to whom the happiness to be found through all the arts is important. No other American painter attracted such a large\, intensely personal group of followers as Henri\, whose death in 1929 brought to an end a life that has been completely devoted to art. He was an inspired artist and teacher who believed that everyone is vitally concerned in the happiness and wisdom to be found through the arts. Many of his paintings have been acquired by museums and private collectors. Among them are the Baltimore Museum of Art\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, the National Gallery of Art\, the Whitney Museum of American Art\, the Wichita Art Museum\, and Yale University Art Gallery.” –Book description from “The Art Spirit” \n  \n  \n  \n\nArtascope Member: Free to attend \nNon-Member*: $10 \n \n  \n  \n*Become a supporting member and attend for free! SUMMARY:Introduction to Landscape Painting in Pastel
DESCRIPTION:Starts online via ZOOM Friday\, March 19th (Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nStudents will explore using soft pastels in landscape paintings\, and learn to capture the beauty of color and light while sharpening their ability to see through layering and mark making. In this 6-week instruction\, students of all levels can learn how to apply pastel on sanded paper by drawing an underpainting and will be shown different techniques on moving pastel around on the painting surface. A demonstration will take place each class\, along with individual and group time. Focus will be on composition\, light to dark values and temperature of color. These classes will be an approach to further your knowledge of the mystery of pastel and what you will want to expand on. A supply list can be emailed upon request. \nNon-members: $195 for 6 weeks. Members: $156. \n \n  \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Christina Davis is a painter of landscapes and works in oil\, acrylic\, and pastel. Her paintings are inspired by nature and the light\, color and movement that she sees. She paints in her studio and will travel to beaches or marshes to paint outside when weather permits. Her fascination is with sky and water and the movement and light changes that occur. It draws her into a flood of emotions\, like feeling the immense vastness and power of the open landscapes in comparison to how busy and sheltered our human world can be. Check out her work at www.christinadavispaintings.com or follow her on Instagram. (Cover image copyright of Christina Davis.) \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy.
