Participants must be reasonably comfortable (not proficient\, but know the procedure) with centering and throwing a three inch cylinder. We will review centering and throwing a cylinder and go on from there to making different lids\, handles\, and go over glazing. Also covered will be bowls and various spouts. The instructor can demonstrate most things students are interested in or curious about. She first experienced wheel throwing at the tender age of seven\, and has been exploring ceramics ever since. She also dabbles in painting\, sculpture\, blacksmithing\, jewelry making\, knife making\, woodworking\, screen-printing\, photography\, sewing\, felting\, mixed-media / found object collage\, and leather tooling. SUMMARY:Beginner Wheel Throwing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Tuesday\, November 2nd (Tuesdays from 1PM-4PM for 6 weeks) \nLearn various centering solutions and throwing techniques on the wheel. We will start with pulling up a cylinder for a vase the first week\, add a handle for a mug the second week and cover lids the third week. From there we will go on to throw bowls and pitchers\, and glaze our finished pots. Explore the amazing world of wheel throwing. For beginner level students. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. Clay will be three dollars a pound which covers glazing and firing costs. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. \n\nInstructor: Lee Cummings\, Maine ceramic artist \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy.
