SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts September 22nd (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nMaterials are not included in the class price. The estimated $35* materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The required kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \n*NOTE: This is an approximate cost and actual kit cost may be different due to the metals market fluctuation in 2026. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \n6-week Series Cost – Non-members: $300 for 6 weeks. Members: $240. \n6-week Series + Trial Membership* bundle: $350 (Non-members can use promo code 6WKTRIALMETALS when registering to reveal access to a 6-week Series + Trial Membership bundle. SUMMARY:Intermediate Metalsmithing Guided Studio Wednesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts September 23rd (Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks). \nThis class is an opportunity to bring your specific interests to the bench and receive help creating the jewelry that YOU want to make. Students should feel comfortable ordering their own materials and working mostly independently with occasional guidance. The instructor will provide demos of techniques related to your projects\, but will not guide you through a specific project\, so be prepared to come to class with your own ideas. After learning the basics of fabrication and repair as a bench jeweler\, she spent an inspiring year in Florence\, Italy\, taking classes in gemology\, wax carving\, rendering\, and stone setting. Many of the unique engraved finishes and detail techniques Carly uses in her designs were passed down from the expert hands of jewelers working in the traditional Italian metalsmithing style. In her sunny Westbrook\, Maine studio\, Carly spends hours twisting fine wires\, forming small beads of metal\, and engraving each piece.
