SUMMARY:Beginning/Intermediate Silversmithing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\, but you can add yourself to the waitlist. \nStarts Monday\, January 22nd (Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks) \n​Class dates: 1/22; 1/29; 2/5; 2/12; 2/26; and 3/4. (There is no class on 2/19/24.) \nThis series will explore the art of silversmithing\, introducing participants to the fundamentals of studio tools\, processes\, safety\, cutting\, sawing\, soldering\, textures\, and finishes. Through lectures\, handouts\, and demonstrations\, students will uncover jewelry crafting techniques and learn how to apply design principles to their work. Suitable for new and well-versed in alchemical metalwork\, this course will also come with a $50 materials kit of sterling silver and brass components. \nFee does not include materials. The $50 materials kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\, but you can add yourself to the waitlist. \nStarts January 23rd (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT: Masks are optional\, except when using rotary tools for sanding and buffing. \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. She has been teaching Beginning Metalsmithing and other workshops at Artascope since 2016 and is thrilled to be part of a friendly & creative community.
