SUMMARY:Wax Carving Gemstone Ring - Two-Day Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this two-day workshop\, Learn how to carve a wax ring\, which will be sent out to be cast in metal* after the first workshop day of February 22nd. You will finish the ring on the second workshop day of March 22nd by adding a bezel cup and setting the gemstone. \nStudents will choose one gemstone to set in the ring. PLEASE BRING A SKETCHBOOK AND PENCIL.  \n*You will have a choice of bronze or sterling silver for the cast ring–see kit options under the description. \nDAY ONE – February 22nd from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nIn the first class\, students will learn to carve a ring from wax and quickly get to work. Once our design is finished at the end of class we will send the rings out to a caster and then receive them in time for the second class. \nDAY TWO – March 22nd from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nThe second part of the workshop will consist of cleaning up the metal casting\, creating a bezel cup and soldering to the ring. We will be sanding\, filing\, cleaning up the ring\, setting the stone and polishing the ring for final finish. \n$199 workshop fee does not include materials. Students can choose to make a bronze ring for an estimated* materials cost of $55 per ring OR $80 materials cost per ring for sterling silver. DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nSunday\, December 21st from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nIn this workshop students will make their own silver rings from start to finish. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills\, such as cutting\, shaping\, and joining metal. (There is no class on 11/27.) \nThis course is a full overview of bezel settings\, starting with simple bezels and progressing up to custom setting unusual shapes. The first half of the series is project based. We will be making a pair of earrings\, a ring\, and a pendant. The second half of the series will be a self-designed project with instructor support. For the final project\, a selection of stones will be available but students are also welcome to bring in small stones or objects from home. This is a beginner class\, no prior metalsmithing experience is needed! \nFee does not include materials. The materials fee is $40 and includes everything needed to complete the course\, including your choice of stones. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $25 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. SUMMARY:Bezel Setting Thursday One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 8th from 9:00AM-4:00PM \nThis workshop will walk students through the technique of bezel setting stone. Students will be introduced to the tools and techniques required to make custom\, handmade jewelry. No prior experience needed. \nDuring the first half of the workshop we will cover soldering and setting stones by making a pair of earrings using bezel cups. After the lunch break\, we will learn how to measure the stone and construct our own bezel using bezel wire. At the completion of the workshop\, you will have mastered the technique of bezel setting and take home a unique\, hand crafted pair of earrings and a pendant. An overview can be emailed upon request. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The materials supply kit to make the earrings and pendant only (no chain) is $30 and can be purchased directly from the instructor with Venmo or cash. Extra material will be available for purchase. Students are also welcome to bring their own tools or materials. \n(For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm.
