DESCRIPTION:Starts February 4th (Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks). \nClass dates: 2/4; 2/11; 2/18; 2/25; 3/4; 3/11. \nThis series will be held in our new location [opening in early February 2026] at 138 Bayview Street\, Yarmouth\, ME. \nBuilding upon foundational metalsmithing techniques\, this class will elevate your existing skills and inspire you to tackle more advanced jewelry projects. We will cover bezel setting for faceted gemstones\, saw piercing\, soldering techniques\, and finishing. Students will move through assigned projects\, including a pair of sterling silver “diamond” earrings (or two pendants)\, but there will be plenty of room for design creativity. Be prepared to learn tips and tricks that will advance your jewelry making to the next level! \nPlease note: It is important that students have basic metalsmithing knowledge\, either through the beginner 6-week metalsmithing course at Artascope or a comparable class. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nSeries fee does not include materials. Supply kit is available from the instructor for an estimated $35* when series begins. After learning the basics of fabrication and repair as a bench jeweler\, she spent an inspiring year in Florence\, Italy\, taking classes in gemology\, wax carving\, rendering\, and stone setting. Many of the unique engraved finishes and detail techniques Carly uses in her designs were passed down from the expert hands of jewelers working in the traditional Italian metalsmithing style. In her sunny Westbrook\, Maine studio\, Carly spends hours twisting fine wires\, forming small beads of metal\, and engraving each piece. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts November 11th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $30 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts March 18th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $25 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. DESCRIPTION:Starts Friday\, November 8th (Fridays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nClass dates: 11/8; 11/15; 11/22; 12/6; 12/13; and 12/20. THERE IS NO CLASS ON 11/29. \nFoundational Drawing with artist Chris Magnuson takes a fresh approach to improving drawing skills by introducing students to exercises\, techniques and drawing media that might be new to you\, while demystifying some aspects that might have been intimidating. \nWhether your goal is improving your painting results through better drawing\, solidifying your sketchbook or journaling projects\, or simply drawing with more confidence and authority–artists of all levels can benefit from this energetic and enjoyable exploration of art’s most fundamental skill–drawing. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. \nWhat to bring for the first class: Mixed-Media sketchbook approximately 11×14\, no smaller than 8.5×11 (Most brands are acceptable but prefer it not to be Borden and Riley). SUMMARY:Beginner Gouache Painting One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 3rd from 9AM-4PM\nIn this workshop we will discuss techniques\, planning a composition\, and how to build a painting in gouache. Students will learn how to mix paint\, how to handle it\, and properties unique to gouache paint. We will begin with a demonstration and warm up exercises. After a lunch break we will begin drawing out compositions and bringing a final painting to life! \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. A supply list can be found below the instructor bio photo. \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. The studio will be closed during this break\, but there are nearby parks where you can eat lunch if you brought your own\, or you can check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Jessica Myer earned her MFA in 2013 with a focus in illustrative painting\, specific to children’s books. We will cover bezel setting for faceted gemstones\, saw piercing\, soldering techniques\, and finishing. Students will move through assigned projects\, including a pair of sterling silver “diamond” earrings (or two pendants)\, but there will be plenty of room for design creativity. Be prepared to learn tips and tricks that will advance your jewelry making to the next level! \nPlease note: It is important that students have basic metalsmithing knowledge\, either through the beginner 6-week metalsmithing course at Artascope or a comparable class. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials.
