SUMMARY:Beginning (PART TWO) Wheel Throwing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts February 2nd (Mondays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for 6 weeks). \nBrush up on your skills and follow up on what was learned in Wheel Throwing Part One. (New students are welcome if they can throw a three-inch cylinder.) \nWe will review centering and throwing a cylinder and then proceed to making different bowls\, lids\, bottles\, plus trimming with a chuck and glazing. Also covered will be handles and various spouts. The instructor can demonstrate most things students are interested in or curious about. Do you want to learn playful and visually appealing techniques that will help you communicate your artistic vision? This class will instruct you in the basics of expressionist painting techniques such as washes\, scumbling\, sgraffitto\, and adding texture. You will learn about the great expressionist painters such as Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. And\, you will discover a wealth of new tools to improve your paintings through use of value\, color and composition. \nGreat for beginners who wish to learn the essentials of painting or for intermediate painters looking to break out of realism. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. SUMMARY:Intermediate Metalsmithing Wednesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts February 4th (Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks). \nClass dates: 2/4; 2/11; 2/18; 2/25; 3/4; 3/11. \nThis series will be held in our new location [opening in early February 2026] at 138 Bayview Street\, Yarmouth\, ME. \nBuilding upon foundational metalsmithing techniques\, this class will elevate your existing skills and inspire you to tackle more advanced jewelry projects. We will cover bezel setting for faceted gemstones\, saw piercing\, soldering techniques\, and finishing. Students will move through assigned projects\, including a pair of sterling silver “diamond” earrings (or two pendants)\, but there will be plenty of room for design creativity. Be prepared to learn tips and tricks that will advance your jewelry making to the next level! \nPlease note: It is important that students have basic metalsmithing knowledge\, either through the beginner 6-week metalsmithing course at Artascope or a comparable class. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nSeries fee does not include materials. Supply kit is available from the instructor for an estimated $35* when series begins. Additional supplies are available to purchase separately as needed for class projects. \n*NOTE: This is an approximate cost and actual kit cost may be different due to the metals market fluctuation in 2026. \nOpen to adults only. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Carly has been working in the professional jewelry business for 13 years\, and started her company\, Flux Jewelry Studio in 2018. After learning the basics of fabrication and repair as a bench jeweler\, she spent an inspiring year in Florence\, Italy\, taking classes in gemology\, wax carving\, rendering\, and stone setting. Many of the unique engraved finishes and detail techniques Carly uses in her designs were passed down from the expert hands of jewelers working in the traditional Italian metalsmithing style. In her sunny Westbrook\, Maine studio\, Carly spends hours twisting fine wires\, forming small beads of metal\, and engraving each piece.
