Use your skills and knowledge from Beginner Metalsmithing and explore your ideas further in the direction of more advanced jewelry making. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SKETCHBOOK AND PENCIL. NOTE: In this Intermediate series\, students will provide their own materials and can work in copper\, brass\, bronze\, and/or sterling silver. A link to a recommended materials list can be found below or you can bring in materials you already own. \nFYI: Due to the high cost of silver from the metals market fluctuation in 2026\, we recommend you purchase less expensive metals\, such as brass or copper to practice the techniques covered in this series. \nStudents will make: \n\n1 pair of earrings\n1 ring with bezel set stone\n1 pendant with bezel set stone\n2 independent study projects (project of your choice with what you have learned)\n\nPlease note: It is important that students have basic metalsmithing knowledge\, either through the beginner 6-week metalsmithing course at Artascope or a comparable class. \nNOTE: There will be no materials kit for this intermediate class. SUMMARY:Wax Carving Gemstone Ring - Two-Day Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to carve a wax ring\, which will be sent out to be cast in Sterling Silver after the first workshop day of Sunday\, November 23rd. You will finish the ring on the second workshop day of Sunday\, December 14th by adding a bezel cup and setting the gemstone. \nStudents will choose one gemstone to set in the ring. PLEASE BRING A SKETCHBOOK AND PENCIL. \nDAY ONE – November 23rd from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nIn the first class\, students will learn to carve a ring from wax and quickly get to work. Once our design is finished at the end of class we will send the rings out to a caster and then receive them in time for the second class. \nDAY TWO – December 14th from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nThe second part of the workshop will consist of cleaning up the metal casting\, creating a bezel cup and soldering to the ring. SUMMARY:Signet Ring Wax Carving Two-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nLearn the ancient technique of lost wax casting in this two-day workshop! \nIn the first class on Sunday\, October 22nd from 9AM-4PM\, you will design\, lay out\, and carve a signet ring out of wax in your choice of several shapes. We will meet three weeks later on Sunday\, November 12th from 9AM-NOON for you to clean up and finish your ring after it is cast in either silver or brass. Basic wax carving\, tool use\, and finishing techniques will be covered. The casting process will occur off-site during the three weeks between classes. No prior metalsmithing experience necessary. \n$149 workshop fee does not include materials. Supply kit available from instructor for $40 on first workshop day. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. The studio will be closed during this break\, but there are nearby parks where you can eat lunch if you brought your own\, or you can check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nOpen to adults only. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts Tuesday\, July 11th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT: Masks are now optional. \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor.
