SUMMARY:Use Color to Conjure Mood One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 20th from 10AM-5PM. Part of the Plein Air Art Festival. \nLearn how to utilize color harmonies to create mood in your plein air paintings with artist Catherine Bickford. \nMystery is one of the most important aspects of any painting and color is often the easiest way to create it. Color can translate your areas of interest to the viewer directly. It is common to make the mistake of painting right over the best color compositions in an effort to “finish” the painting. In this class we will slow down\, stay loose\, and use color with intention and to create dramatic results. \nColor mixing is an enjoyable process and a skill that requires practice. In this class we will learn how to use six basic colors (Cadmium Red\, Quinacidrone Magenta\, Cadmium Yellow Medium\, Cadmium Yellow Light\, Phthalo Blue\, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White) to create almost any color. \nThe focus will be on learning complementary and harmonious color schemes. Mystery is the most important aspect of any painting and color is often the easiest waya to create it. Color can translate your areas of interest to the viewer directly and we often paint right over the best color compositions. In this class we will slow down and use color with more intention and to more dramatic result. \nPlease bring your materials\, as well as your easel set up for painting outside. If you do not have the materials from the list below\, just bring what you have. If you prefer to work with oil\, that is fine\, too. I personally work with an acrylic ground and oil on top. \nMeet at Artascope Studios in Yarmouth at 9:45AM \nThere will be a lunch break from 1pm-2pm. SUMMARY:Joy of Watercolor 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\, but you can join a waitlist. \nStarts Monday\, March 18th (Mondays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT INFO: Class dates will be 3/18; 4/1; 4/8; 4/22; with two classes scheduled for the final week–Monday\, April 29th and Thursday\, May 2nd). Both 3/25 and 4/15 will be skipped. \nEach week\, class will dive into one aspect of watercolor painting. Color\, water to pigment ratios\, composition\, brush strokes and value. In the beginning of each session\, students will complete several exercises on the daily topic\, and then move on to their individual painting project where they will focus on the skills we have just learned. Class is appropriate for all levels. \nMaterials not included. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nClick HERE for a PDF showing recommended basic supplies. \n\n\n \n  \n  \n\n\n\nADDITIONAL NOTE FROM DEENA: Students should purchase paper in a size they are comfortable painting on. You can purchase sheets of 140lb cold press all cotton watercolor paper. Arches\, Waterford Saunders\, Fabriano are all great brands. Three sheets should be plenty if you do not plan on painting many pieces over 11 x 14. If you do purchase sheets you will need some kind of support board and artist tape. White artist tape ( intertape) and gator board is suggested. Dick Blick Art Materials sells a 16” x 23” 1/2” thick gator board which is perfect. If you would prefer to purchase a block of watercolor paper you can and then you do not need tape or support however you will only be able to work on one thing at a time. To me this is a less economical and more restrictive way to buy paper. Watercolor blocks have more sizing on the paper than sheets of paper. \nClick HERE for a PDF showing Deena’s favorite watercolor materials. \n\nAbout the instructor: Deena S.
