SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts May 19th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The estimated $35* materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The required kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \n*NOTE: This is an approximate cost and actual kit cost may be different due to the metals market fluctuation in 2026. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. SUMMARY:Intermediate Metalsmithing Wednesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:CLASS IS FULL. \nStarts May 20th (Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks). \nClass dates: 5/20; 5/27; 6/3; 6/10; 6/17; and 6/24. \nBuilding upon foundational metalsmithing techniques\, this class will elevate your existing skills and inspire you to tackle more advanced jewelry projects. We will cover bezel setting for faceted gemstones\, saw piercing\, soldering techniques\, and finishing. Students will move through assigned projects\, including a pair of sterling silver “diamond” earrings (or two pendants)\, but there will be plenty of room for design creativity. Be prepared to learn tips and tricks that will advance your jewelry making to the next level! \nPlease note: It is important that students have basic metalsmithing knowledge\, either through the beginner 6-week metalsmithing course at Artascope or a comparable class. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. \nSeries fee does not include materials. Supply kit is available from the instructor for an estimated $35* when series begins. Additional supplies are available to purchase separately as needed for class projects. \n*NOTE: Due to daily increases in the cost of metal\, the cost of materials is subject to change. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Carly has been working in the professional jewelry business for 13 years\, and started her company\, Flux Jewelry Studio in 2018. After learning the basics of fabrication and repair as a bench jeweler\, she spent an inspiring year in Florence\, Italy\, taking classes in gemology\, wax carving\, rendering\, and stone setting. Many of the unique engraved finishes and detail techniques Carly uses in her designs were passed down from the expert hands of jewelers working in the traditional Italian metalsmithing style. In her sunny Westbrook\, Maine studio\, Carly spends hours twisting fine wires\, forming small beads of metal\, and engraving each piece. SUMMARY:Earrings as Gifts - Saturday Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 23rd from 1:30PM-7:30PM\nParticipants will be guided through jewelry-making basics\, from selecting materials\, tool use\, and safety to cutting & shaping metal\, using the rolling mill for fun textures and soldering wire for hoops. Make up to three pairs of earrings. This course has a $35 materials fee\, which includes copper sheet for texturing and cutting out shapes\, brass and copper wire for hoops\, pre-shaped copper stampings to customize\, and sterling silver ear wires.
