Through lectures\, handouts\, and demonstrations\, students will uncover the techniques of crafting jewelry and learn how to apply design principles to their work. Suitable for both beginners and those well-versed in alchemical metalwork. \nFee does not include materials. The $50 materials kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:CLASS IS FULL. \nStarts Tuesday\, March 14th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT: Masks required\, but a vote will be taken at first class to determine comfort level of group to switch to optional. \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. SUMMARY:Beginner Silver Ring Bands One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nIn this workshop students will make their own silver rings from start to finish. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills\, such as cutting\, shaping\, and joining metal. You will customize your ring bands with surface design techniques such as filing\, stamping\, and hammering. \nIMPORTANT: Masks are now optional in this workshop. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The $25 materials kit can be purchased at the beginning of the workshop. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. Bring your own lunch or check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nOpen to adults only.
