Use your skills and knowledge from Beginner Metalsmithing and explore your ideas further in the direction of more advanced jewelry making. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SKETCHBOOK AND PENCIL. NOTE: In this Intermediate series\, students will provide their own materials and can work in copper\, brass\, bronze\, and/or sterling silver. A link to a recommended materials list can be found below or you can bring in materials you already own. \nFYI: Due to the high cost of silver from the metals market fluctuation in 2026\, we recommend you purchase less expensive metals\, such as brass or copper to practice the techniques covered in this series. \nStudents will make: \n\n1 pair of earrings\n1 ring with bezel set stone\n1 pendant with bezel set stone\n2 independent study projects (project of your choice with what you have learned)\n\nPlease note: It is important that students have basic metalsmithing knowledge\, either through the beginner 6-week metalsmithing course at Artascope or a comparable class. \nNOTE: There will be no materials kit for this intermediate class. SUMMARY:Signet Ring Wax Carving Two-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn the ancient technique of wax carving in this two-day workshop. \nIn the first class on Sunday\, March 9th from 9AM-4PM\, you will design\, lay out\, and carve a signet ring out of wax in your choice of several shapes. We will meet three weeks later on Sunday\, March 30th from 9AM-NOON for you to clean up and finish your ring after it is cast in either silver or brass. Basic wax carving\, tool use\, and finishing techniques will be covered. The casting process will occur off-site during the three weeks between classes. No prior metalsmithing experience necessary. \n$149 workshop fee does not include materials. Many of the unique engraved finishes and detail techniques Carly uses in her designs were passed down from the expert hands of jewelers working in the traditional Italian metalsmithing style. In her sunny Westbrook\, Maine studio\, Carly spends hours twisting fine wires\, forming small beads of metal\, and engraving each piece. SUMMARY:Bezel Setting Wednesday One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, January 15th from 9:00AM-4:00PM \nThis workshop will walk students through the technique of bezel setting stone. Students will be introduced to the tools and techniques required to make custom\, handmade jewelry. No prior experience needed. \nDuring the first half of the workshop we will cover soldering and setting stones by making a pair of earrings using bezel cups. After the lunch break\, we will learn how to measure the stone and construct our own bezel using bezel wire. At the completion of the workshop\, you will have mastered the technique of bezel setting and take home a unique\, hand crafted pair of earrings and a pendant. An overview can be emailed upon request. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The materials supply kit to make the earrings and pendant only (no chain) is $30 and can be purchased directly from the instructor with Venmo or cash. Extra material will be available for purchase.
