SUMMARY:Acrylic Techniques 6-week Artist Series - THURSDAY PM
DESCRIPTION:Starts March 14th (Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nArtists explore basic acrylic painting techniques in a flexible\, supportive setting. Color mixing and theories\, paint and imagery layering\, composition\, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation\, printed photos and imagination. Contemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up on paper\, then develop ideas on canvas. All levels are welcome. \nSupplies not included in fee. Supply list will be emailed by the instructor before the first class. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nMasks are optional for this series. \n\n  \n  \n\nInstructor bio: Jen MacDonald has studied many different art mediums and has come to love acrylic paint. She is fond of exploring the beauty of flowers by painting with an unusual perspective and deeply vibrant and saturated color. DESCRIPTION:Starts Monday\, January 22nd (Mondays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for six weeks.) \nNOTE: Masks are required in this series. \nEach week\, class will dive into one aspect of watercolor painting. Color\, water to pigment ratios\, composition\, brush strokes and value. In the beginning of each session\, students will complete several exercises on the daily topic\, and then move on to their individual painting project where they will focus on the skills we have just learned. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Part of the Plein Air Art Festival. \nJoin renowned landscape painter Liz Prescott who will be teaching this one day workshop in simplifying your composition with creative interpretation to create strong landscape paintings. We’ve all heard the advice “simplify your composition.” This workshop answers the question “HOW do I simplify my paintings”? \nLiz will help you learn to see the large shapes in your scene and how to render them in simple color and tonal values. Learning how to organize the large masses will help you create landscape paintings that are more direct and more dynamic. What a treat to spend a whole day focused on composition and learning how to create a good foundation for your future landscape paintings. \nOpen to acrylic and oil painters. Please bring your sketching materials\, charcoal and drawing paper\, as well as a few blank canvases and your acrylic paints as well as your easel set up for painting outside. SUMMARY:Drawing Still Life in Charcoal 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Monday\, July 10th (Mondays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of how to draw from life using vine charcoal. This course is great for beginners or those who wish to improve their observational skills. We will focus on interior set ups that allow us to draw for extended periods of time. Instructor Catherine Bickford will demonstrate how to simplify what you see into basic shapes and planes allowing you to create strong composition. We will investigate what it means to understand your own “mark” and will find new ways to relate to the world through drawing. \nMaterials not included: Please bring an ample supply of vine charcoal and drawing paper or Strathmore Bristol smooth pad (preferred).
