SUMMARY:Watercolor: Beyond the Basics 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts January 18th (Tuesdays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nIn this class students will learn to exploit some of the wonderful qualities unique to watercolor. Students will try painting on yupo paper and an aqua board. In addition students will explore applying gesso prior to painting as well as watercolor grounds. Students will combine watercolor and watercolor pencils or chalk pastels. This creative class is appropriate for advanced beginners and above. In each class new techniques will be introduced and practiced. Students will work on their own painting that incorporates techniques they find useful. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine\, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Deena’s work is primarily landscapes with many of her paintings done on location outside. Students will get to keep the papers and board but get to try other things such as grounds\, watercolor pencils and pastels. The fee will depend on how many people are in the class–the estimate for a supply fee is between $20.00 and $25.00 per person. Supply Fee will be collected the first day of class. Please bring cash or a check. \nIf a student wants to get the absolute minimum in paints the colors would be permanent rose\, transparent yellow and French ultramarine blue. Three sheets of paper should be a good start. Students will learn more and have a better experience if they have all supplies. Color mixing and theories\, paint and imagery layering\, composition\, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation\, photo or printed references\, and imagination. Contemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up canvas\, then develop ideas based on colors from one source and imagery from another (artists’ works\, participants’ own photos\, project ideas\, etc.) All levels are welcome. \nSupplies: Contact Alex before purchasing any supplies if you are new to the series. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: For the safety of our teachers and students\, masks are required inside the studio. \n\nInstructor bio: Alex Rheault is an interdisciplinary artist\, curator\, and writer.
