SUMMARY:Acrylic Techniques via ZOOM (Thursday PM) 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts online Thursday afternoon\, November 5th (Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for 6 weeks. ZOOM link is open to participants by 1:15 p.m. each week\, so folks can say hello and prepare for class.) \nArtists explore basic acrylic painting techniques in a flexible\, supportive setting. Color mixing and theories\, paint and imagery layering\, composition\, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation\, photo or printed references\, and imagination. \nContemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up canvas\, then develop ideas based on colors from one source and imagery from another (artists’ works\, participants’ own photos\, project ideas etc.) All levels are welcome. \nSupplies: Wait to discuss with Alex if you are new to the series. Be prepared to purchase six basic colors\, short handle Round brushes 12\, 10\, and 6\, palette paper\, two 16 x 20 inch canvases per week (5 pack available). The site alexstudioarts.wordpress.com contains student works\, archives of projects since 2019\, and recent prompts from Spring 2020. \nZoom sessions and how it works: To allow for a more relaxed entry and exit\, session is open to participants by 1:15 PM\, so folks can say hello and prepare. The session starts at 1:30 PM with each participant sharing something about their week\, their work followed by a warm-up and or demonstration. We work (participants muted) with music I play until 2:30/2:45. Unmuted\, participants share progress and what is happening. Then we work until 4:00-4:15 PM. Unmuted\, participants share until close at 4:30/4:45 PM. I send a link for the six weeks\, and it remains the same for the duration. I send a weekly email with prompts\, resources\, and link. \nNon-members: $195 for 6 weeks\, or $40 per class. Members: $156. \n \n  \n  \n  \n\nInstructor bio: Alex Rheault teaches at UNE and is a local exhibiting artist\, curator and writer. DESCRIPTION:Starts Saturday\, November 7th (Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for six weeks) \nLearn metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere. Begin by learning how to handle the necessary tools and equipment. You will then set out on several projects\, making rings\, bracelets and earrings\, and perfecting skills in techniques like forging\, texturizing and soldering. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nNon-members: $195 for 6 weeks. Members: $156. \nFee does not include materials. Supply kit available from instructor for $10 when series begins. Additional supplies available to purchase separately as needed for class projects. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \nThis series follows the same curriculum as our Tuesday night Beginning Metalsmithing series\, but is run as a separate series on Saturdays only. \n \n  \n  \nInstructor: Sarah Storey Walker received her M.F.A from East Carolina University and went to work at the Mattress Factory Museum of Installation Art helping to facilitate artworks with contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Damien Hirst. She also has experience in glass production and has worked on manufacturing raw material for artists like Dale Chihuly and artist-designed pieces for artists such as Jeff Koons. Sarah works in a wide range of materials but favors ideas and teaching over all. She received a grant from Touchstone Center for the Arts to study metalsmithing\, her writing has been published by the Arts Education periodical and she has given lectures at the De Young Museum. SUMMARY:Beginner Metalsmithing for Teens One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:WORKSHOP IS OPEN TO AGES 13 AND UP. \nLearn metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere. Teens will begin by learning how to handle the necessary tools and equipment. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills\, such as cutting\, shaping\, and soldering. Also covered will be techniques such as roller-printing\, stamping\, and hammering to personalize the rings made in the workshop. \n$79 workshop fee does not include materials. A materials kit can be purchased at the beginning of the workshop. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm.
