SUMMARY:Beginner Bezel Setting Wednesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Wednesday\, February 4th (Wednesday mornings from 10:00AM-1:00PM for six weeks.) \nCLASS DATES: 2/4; 2/11; 2/25; 3/4; 3/11; and 3/18. (There is no class on 2/18.) \nThis course is a full overview of bezel settings\, starting with simple bezels and progressing up to custom setting unusual shapes. The first half of the series is project based. We will be making a pair of earrings\, a ring\, and a pendant. The second half of the series will be a self-designed project with instructor support. For the final project\, a selection of stones will be available but students are also welcome to bring in small stones or objects from home. This is a beginner class\, no prior metalsmithing experience is needed! \nFee does not include materials. The estimated materials fee is $40* and includes everything needed to complete the course\, including your choice of stones. The materials kit can be purchased directly from the instructor with Venmo or cash at the first class. *NOTE: This is an approximate cost and actual kit cost may be different due to the metals market fluctuation in 2026. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nThis series will be held in our new location [opening in early February 2026] at 138 Bayview Street\, Yarmouth\, ME. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Racheal Cooley has a degree in art and biology. SUMMARY:Wax Carving Gemstone Ring - Two-Day Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this two-day workshop\, Learn how to carve a wax ring\, which will be sent out to be cast in metal* after the first workshop day of February 22nd. You will finish the ring on the second workshop day of March 22nd by adding a bezel cup and setting the gemstone. \nStudents will choose one gemstone to set in the ring. PLEASE BRING A SKETCHBOOK AND PENCIL.  \n*You will have a choice of bronze or sterling silver for the cast ring–see kit options under the description. \nDAY ONE – February 22nd from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nIn the first class\, students will learn to carve a ring from wax and quickly get to work. Once our design is finished at the end of class we will send the rings out to a caster and then receive them in time for the second class. \nDAY TWO – March 22nd from 9:30AM-4:30PM \nThe second part of the workshop will consist of cleaning up the metal casting\, creating a bezel cup and soldering to the ring. We will be sanding\, filing\, cleaning up the ring\, setting the stone and polishing the ring for final finish. \n$199 workshop fee does not include materials. Students can choose to make a bronze ring for an estimated* materials cost of $55 per ring OR $80 materials cost per ring for sterling silver. Kit includes: Jewelers Carving Wax\, Gemstone\, Casting Labor Fee & the cost of the Metal. \n*NOTE: This is an approximate cost and actual kit cost may be different due to the metals market fluctuation in 2026. \nThe materials kit must be purchased from the instructor on the first workshop day via Venmo\, CASH\, or credit card. \n(For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch on both days. The studio will be closed during this break\, but there are nearby parks where you can eat lunch if you brought your own\, or you can check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nOpen to adults only. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Olivia Boi creates jewelry at her home and metals studio in Maine. Sterling silver\, brass\, and beautifully cut stones are the bread and butter to her practice. She started Strong Moon Metals December 2017 and hasn’t looked back ever since.
