SUMMARY:Foundations of Ceramics 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Monday\, May 13th (Mondays from 6PM-9PM for six weeks.) \nNOTE: There is no class on May 27th (Memorial Day). The last class will be on June 24th. \nStudents will learn the fundamental techniques used when working with clay. Students will be learning how to make pinch pots\, slab built pots\, and coil pots. This class will also include an introduction to the Potters Wheel. Students will create both functional and non-functional work\, Electric kiln firing will be available and each person will be working at their own level with the guidance of the instructor. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts May 14th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT: Masks are optional\, except when using rotary tools for sanding and buffing. \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $25 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. SUMMARY:Spinner Rings - Saturday Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 18th from 1:30PM-7:30PM\nThis workshop will guide you through the fundamentals of the metals studio\, including tools\, safety\, soldering\, filing\, and sanding\, to help you create a beautiful and unique spinner ring. This course is suitable for beginners\, and there is a $30 materials fee\, which will provide you with everything you need to complete your spinner ring. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The $30 materials kit can be purchased from the instructor at the beginning of the workshop. \n(For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have a 20-minute break\, so feel free to bring a snack. \nOpen to adults only.
