SUMMARY:Artists Inspired by Night 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts November 7th (Mondays from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nIn this acrylic painting series we will look at how artists such as Edward Hopper\, Lois Dodd\, Matthew Wong\, and others have engaged with and represented the night. We will look at what inspired these artists\, learn enlightening facts about their art and methods of creating effective night scenes. We will use class time to study but also to play with ways of painting that use the techniques we identify. These approaches will include painting a study of the artist’s piece\, looking at how the paint is applied and dynamic color mixing. You will create your own original paintings using one or more of the artists’ ideas about color\, style\, composition\, etc. Start your week off with time to play with paint as you learn the tricks and techniques of the masters. Want to paint a still life? Prefer to paint a landscape from a photo you bring to class? You may even have time to do both! We’ll help with that\, too. \nAward-winning artist\, Gerard Bianco\, has been guiding artists for over forty years\, teaching the craft of painting from the ground up. From the basics to the more intricate and subtle aspects of painting\, his hands-on approach will help you to mix colors\, understand values\, and learn the craft of painting to take your art to new heights. Here’s your opportunity to spend six hours with a painting professional who will personally guide you on your painting path. SUMMARY:Let Loose - Paint with Abandon - Plein Air One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Just a few seats left! Deadline to register is 8/10/22. \nTake your vision outside and create a personal impression of the world around you. Painting outside is challenging\, but there are five essential things you can do before your brush touches the paper or canvas that will help you paint with abandon. Painting outside will infuse your painting with energy and show you everything you are missing when you paint from photographs. If you take the time for these five essential steps you will be able to paint faster and catch the fleeting light. Your chances of creating a successful painting are greatly improved. \nIn this workshop\, the morning will be spent learning the five essential steps that will make painting outside easier. Students will learn about the importance of each step and practice the techniques. Once they are comfortable\, they will complete a small painting. In the late afternoon\, everything will be put into practice on a larger scale with a new scene. \nMorning session: 8:30 am – 12:30pm \nBreak: 12:30 until 3pm \nAfternoon session: 3pm – 7pm \n(Total workshop time is 8 hours) \nAbility Levels: All skill levels welcome\, but should be familiar with their medium. All media covered. \nOutdoor sites for this workshop will include the quaint and beautiful town of Yarmouth\, ME and its waterfront. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. SUMMARY:Introduction to Palette Knife Painting One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Create beautiful acrylic paintings using a palette knife. \nIn this one-day workshop\, you will learn how to mix your paint on a palette sheet and on the canvas\, and how to create different effects with just a palette knife. A class critique will be held at the end of the day\, and handouts will be provided. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. A materials fee of $30 is due the day of the workshop (cash preferred) and covers: \n\nclass/instruction/supervised painting time\ndemo of techniques\n2 canvases/pp\nseveral knives/pp\nhandout about palette knife painting\ndisposable palettes\n\n(Acrylic paints will be provided for use at workshop only.) \n  \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. Training in various mediums and styles followed. She continues to paint in watercolors\, oils\, acrylics\, and pastels. Her favorite content includes people\, old architecture\, and landscapes. DESCRIPTION:Starts January 20th (Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nThis series changed to ZOOM only as of 1-5-22. \nArtists explore basic acrylic painting techniques in a flexible\, supportive setting. Color mixing and theories\, paint and imagery layering\, composition\, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation\, photo or printed references\, and imagination. Contemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up canvas\, then develop ideas based on colors from one source and imagery from another (artists’ works\, participants’ own photos\, project ideas\, etc.) All levels are welcome. \nSupplies: Contact Alex before purchasing any supplies if you are new to the series. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: For the safety of our teachers and students\, masks are required while inside the studio. \n\nInstructor bio: Alex Rheault is an interdisciplinary artist\, curator\, and writer. She teaches at USM\, UNE\, and privately.
