Students will be able to create one\, two and even three stained glass flowers with the time allowed. SUMMARY:Beginner Gouache Painting One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 3rd from 9AM-4PM\nIn this workshop we will discuss techniques\, planning a composition\, and how to build a painting in gouache. Students will learn how to mix paint\, how to handle it\, and properties unique to gouache paint. We will begin with a demonstration and warm up exercises. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 23rd from 9:00AM-4:00PM \nCome explore the art and craft of book binding. We begin this full day book arts workshop with Calligraphic Page Design. These decorative papers will then be used to bind three beginner bindings. We will learn the anatomy of the book while we bind soft and hard covered Pamphlet Books. Then the Stab Binding\, which introduces an Eastern style of book binding. Finally\, we will explore the Accordion Artist Book and begin to express our creative ideas on the pages of this very versatile book structure. Bring your favorite poem or other inspiration to create from. \nBook-making tools will be available for use. DESCRIPTION:Signet Ring Wax Carving Two-day Workshop on October 20th (full-day) and November 10th (half-day). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn the ancient technique of wax carving in this two-day workshop (9 hours total). \nIn the first class on Sunday\, October 20th from 9AM-4PM\, you will design\, lay out\, and carve a signet ring out of wax in your choice of several shapes. DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts September 18th (Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nCLASS DATES ARE: 9/18; 9/25; 10/2; 10/9; 10/16; and 10/30. (There is no class on October 23rd.) \nDo you have a desire to explore yourself through acrylic painting? Do you want to learn playful and visually appealing techniques that will help you communicate your artistic vision? This class will instruct you in the basics of expressionist painting techniques such as washes\, scumbling\, sgraffitto\, and adding texture. You will learn about the great expressionist painters such as Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. And\, you will discover a wealth of new tools to improve your paintings through use of value\, color and composition. \nGreat for beginners who wish to learn the essentials of painting or for intermediate painters looking to break out of realism. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. SUMMARY:Torch Fired Enamel - Saturday Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT.\nSaturday\, September 7th from 1:30PM-7:30PM\nLearn the basics of torch firing and fusing colored powdered glass enamel onto vintage pennies or copper shapes to create colorful metal pieces. The materials fee of $30 includes all necessary materials\, such as handouts\, enamels\, opalescent\, stringers\, ear wires and leather for pendants\, and display cards for gift giving. SUMMARY:Beginner Plein Air Watercolor One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 21st from 9AM-4PM. Part of the Plein Air Art Festival. \nBeginners Plein Air Watercolor (or a refresher for those who have not painted outside) \nSpend a day demystifying plein air watercolor painting. Learn to capture our beautiful landscape simply and effectively using watercolors. \nThe class will meet first at the Bickford Outdoor Pavilion at 1 Railroad Square (just off Main St)\, and then journey as a group to the Yarmouth Boat Landing at 209 Old Shipyard Road\, Yarmouth\, ME. (NOTE: Parking is on the right hand side at the boat landing. No single car parking right in front of the waterfront.) \nStudents will begin with compositional sketches and receive basic pointers for developing an engaging landscape composition. The group will spend about 40 minutes on basic watercolor techniques and brush handling. This will be followed by a demonstration of a three-layer landscape painting. \nStudents will paint along in order to learn the simple three-layer method for plein air painting. If time allows\, students can complete another three-layer painting\, or they can add finishing touches to their paint-along piece. \nIn the afternoon\, students will create their own watercolor painting using the three-layer method. There will be plenty of help and individual attention. We will end the workshop with a supportive group critique. \nALL STUDENTS must bring a sketch book\, drawing pencil and black sharpies. \nPlease bring your lunch to eat on site. \n(Rain date of Aug. 22nd) \n$149 workshop fee does not include materials. Students can choose to pay a $25 supply fee to the instructor the morning of the workshop if they do not have supplies of their own. \nPlease notify the instructor at deenaball@mac.com if you require watercolor supplies. \nInfo for new-to-watercolor students: \nAll you need to bring is a folding chair\, water for painting\, a container for the water\, paper towels\, a sketchbook\, a pencil\, a fine line Sharpie pen\, and any other outdoor necessities. \nThe instructor will supply professional-quality paints\, palettes\, brushes\, and paper. \nThere is a supply fee of $25.00. \nInfo for students who have taken a previous class with Deena: \nStudents who took Joy of Watercolor this year and have the required supplies can bring their own and will not need to pay the supply fee. \nIf you have supplies because you took watercolor with another instructor please make sure they are what is specified – www.deenasballworkshops.com – free favorite supply download. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Deena S. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine\, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Deena’s work is primarily landscapes with many of her paintings done on location outside.
