Do you think about wanting to connect with other artists to collaborate or simply learn new ways to get your art into the world? Artascope has been developing an “art coaching” service that we are offering to our membership at no charge. We have had amazing results from the effort so far and we are inviting you to participate. \nThe “class” meets for two hours once a week for six weeks. We share our journeys\, values\, interests\, and questions. These encourage more experimentation\, enlightenment\, and progress. We test areas of personal focus\, exhibition mechanics\, how to grow a personal network\, and invent engaging community projects. Readings\, short videos\, and other materials enhance each session. \nYou will learn new ways to take your art into the world such as research\, locating community resources\, building online presence\, using promotional materials\, and joys of public presentations. Invited guests\, artists and innovators in the arts provide diverse connections\, insights\, and inclusive approaches. \nParticipants need access to an email address to use for blog set-up\, and a computer to upload content each week. \nZOOM sessions and how it works: To allow for a more relaxed entry and exit\, each session is open to participants by 10:45 AM\, so folks can say hello and prepare. The session starts at 11AM with each participant sharing something about their week\, followed by a teacher demonstration. SUMMARY:Crash Course Watercolor One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A six-hour crash course in painting with watercolors for first-timers or those who would like a refresher. \nLearn to create a beautiful wash\, layer and mix colors\, paint wet on wet and create luminous passages. Students will learn to manage the ratio of pigment to water and the importance of values in watercolor. Crash Course Watercolor will touch on many aspects of watercolor painting\, history\, materials\, innovative techniques and traditional watercolor. Activities will be a fun mix of painting analysis\, watercolor technique exercises\, demos and painting time. By the close of the workshop students will have completed an abstract watercolor design\, a small still life painting and a landscape. \nNOTE: This is an in-person workshop. If you prefer online\, we are also offering this same workshop on June 16th via ZOOM. \n$79 workshop fee does not include materials. DESCRIPTION:Starts online via ZOOM Friday\, March 19th (Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nStudents will explore using soft pastels in landscape paintings\, and learn to capture the beauty of color and light while sharpening their ability to see through layering and mark making. In this 6-week instruction\, students of all levels can learn how to apply pastel on sanded paper by drawing an underpainting and will be shown different techniques on moving pastel around on the painting surface. A demonstration will take place each class\, along with individual and group time. Focus will be on composition\, light to dark values and temperature of color. These classes will be an approach to further your knowledge of the mystery of pastel and what you will want to expand on. A supply list can be emailed upon request. \nNon-members: $195 for 6 weeks. DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nIn this workshop students will make their own silver rings from start to finish. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills\, such as cutting\, shaping\, and joining metal. You will customize your ring bands with surface design techniques such as roller-printing\, stamping\, and hammering. \n$79 workshop fee does not include materials. The $20 materials kit can be purchased at the beginning of the workshop. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. DESCRIPTION:Starts online Thursday\, January 21st (Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nZOOM link is open to participants by 9:30 AM each week\, so folks can say hello and prepare for class.) \nArtists explore basic acrylic painting techniques in a flexible\, supportive setting. Color mixing and theories\, paint and imagery layering\, composition\, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation\, photo or printed references\, and imagination. Contemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up canvas \, then develop ideas based on colors from one source and imagery from another (artists’ works\, participants’ own photos\, project ideas etc.) All levels are welcome. \nSupplies: Wait to discuss with Alex\, if you are new to the series. Be prepared to purchase six basic colors\, short handle Round brushes 12\, 10\, and 6\, palette paper\, two 16 x 20 inch canvases per week (5 pack available). The session starts at 10AM with each participant sharing something about their week\, their work followed by a warm-up and or demonstration. Students work (participants muted) with music Alex plays until about 11/11:15. Unmuted\, participants share progress and what is happening. Then students work until 1PM. Unmuted\, participants share until close at 1:20/30 PM. Alex sends a link for the six weeks\, and it remains the same for the duration. Sometimes the best way to learn is to “apprentice” from master painters of the past. It begins by reinforcing the safe and proper use of essential tools and equipment. Students will then set out on several projects\, including rings\, bracelets and earrings\, and learning skills and techniques like forging\, texturizing\, mark making/stamping\, and soldering. Students should bring some project ideas\, and they may bring materials needed to start them. There will be discussions about grassroots and collaborative projects\, pop-up shows\, exhibiting\, publications\, and other art opportunities. Rheault worked with Illustration Institute’s Fashion Symposium in Fall of 2019 coordinating workshops and talks local artists and others attended. She is developing work for the Mending in 2021. Rheault served as an Adjunct Assistant Lecturer at UNE and Chair of Illustration at Maine College of Art. She was the Artistic Director for Quimby Colony’s Fashion\, Costume and Textile Program. Rheault founded drawing room\, where drawing and community collide. Rheault published drawings for the cover and in the UMVA’s Maine Journal\, Winter 2017\, and has written catalogue essays for other artists. SUMMARY:Beginner Silver Ring Bands Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nIn this workshop students will make their own silver rings from start to finish. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills\, such as cutting\, shaping\, and joining metal. You will customize your ring bands with surface design techniques such as roller-printing\, stamping\, and hammering. \n$79 workshop fee does not include materials. The $20 materials kit can be purchased at the beginning of the workshop. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. Bring your own lunch or check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n  \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Sarah Storey Walker received her M.F.A from East Carolina University and went to work at the Mattress Factory Museum of Installation Art helping to facilitate artworks with contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Damien Hirst. She also has experience in glass production and has worked on manufacturing raw material for artists like Dale Chihuly and artist-designed pieces for artists such as Jeff Koons. Sarah works in a wide range of materials but favors ideas and teaching over all. She received a grant from Touchstone Center for the Arts to study metalsmithing\, her writing has been published by the Arts Education periodical and she has given lectures at the De Young Museum. She mostly chooses to work collaboratively or behind-the-scenes but her work has been shown at 111 Minna Gallery and Black Rock City.  \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, December 5th from 11am-12pm makers are invited to join us for an outdoor\, socially distanced\,  tree-trimming celebration at the Bickford Pavilion on Main Street in Yarmouth where we’ll hang the ornaments\, enjoy a cup of cocoa\, and some holiday music provided by 317 Main Community Music Center. \nWe will also have a craft table set up at the event so everyone can participate by making a simpler version of the star or a ribbon.
