You will learn about the great expressionist painters such as Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. DESCRIPTION:In this workshop students will make their own silver rings from start to finish. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills\, such as cutting\, shaping\, and joining metal. DESCRIPTION:Starts March 20th (Wednesdays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for 6 weeks) \nBrush up on your skills and follow up on what was learned in Wheel Throwing Part One. Participants must be reasonably comfortable (not proficient\, but know the procedure) with centering and throwing a three inch cylinder. We will review centering and throwing a cylinder and go on from there to making different lids\, handles\, and go over glazing. Also covered will be bowls and various spouts. The instructor can demonstrate most things students are interested in or curious about. Color\, water to pigment ratios\, composition\, brush strokes and value. In the beginning of each session\, students will complete several exercises on the daily topic\, and then move on to their individual painting project where they will focus on the skills we have just learned. Three sheets should be plenty if you do not plan on painting many pieces over 11 x 14. If you do purchase sheets you will need some kind of support board and artist tape. White artist tape ( intertape) and gator board is suggested. Dick Blick Art Materials sells a 16” x 23” 1/2” thick gator board which is perfect. If you would prefer to purchase a block of watercolor paper you can and then you do not need tape or support however you will only be able to work on one thing at a time. To me this is a less economical and more restrictive way to buy paper. SUMMARY:Bezel Setting One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\, but you can add yourself to the waitlist. \nSunday\, February 4th from 9AM-4PM \nThis workshop will walk students through the technique of bezel setting stone. Students will be introduced to the tools and techniques required to make custom\, handmade jewelry. No prior experience needed. \nDuring the first half of the workshop we will cover soldering and setting stones by making a pair of earrings using bezel cups. After the lunch break\, we will learn how to measure the stone and construct our own bezel using bezel wire. At the completion of the workshop\, you will have mastered the technique of bezel setting and take home a unique\, hand crafted pair of earrings and a pendant. Click HERE for an overview. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The materials supply kit is $30 and can be purchased directly from the instructor with Venmo or cash. Extra material will be available for purchase. SUMMARY:Foundations of Ceramics WEDNESDAY 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts Wednesday\, January 24th (Mondays from 6PM-9PM for six weeks.) \nEnjoy a hands-on educational and artistic experience using clay. Students will learn fundamental making and decorating techniques including wheel throwing\, handbuilding and glazing\, as well as sculpting techniques such as coil building\, pinching and handbuilding to create functional and non-functional work. Weekly projects include making cups\, bowls\, and plates. Electric kiln-firing will be available and each person will be working at his or her own level with the guidance of the instructor. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nMasks are optional for this series. \nFee does not include materials. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor.
