SUMMARY:Landscape from the Ground Up Watercolor 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts May 17th (Tuesdays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nStudents will learn about one aspect of landscape painting each week through demonstrations and exercises. To reinforce their new knowledge they will then do a small painting using the lesson of the day. Topics will include\, skies\, moving water (streams)\, reflections (still water)\, trees\, forest floor and fields and oceans. This is a great way to get ready to paint outside. Through out the class\, there will be critiques to discuss composition\, values and explore what makes a great painting. Students should have some experience using watercolor paints. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. A list of recommended supplies can be found below the instructor bio. \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. Click HERE to review our protocols. \n\n \n  \n\n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Deena S. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine\, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Deena’s work is primarily landscapes with many of her paintings done on location outside. Learn more at www.deenasball.com. \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy. \nClick here for our inclement weather policy. \n\n\n\nSUGGESTED SUPPLIES AND OTHER INFO FROM THE INSTRUCTOR \nSources: \n\nwww.dickblick.com\nwww.cheapjoes.com\nwww.jerrysartarama.com\nAmazon\nwww.jacksonsart.com\nwww.rosemaryandco.com\n\nPaint \nRecommended – Winsor Newton Professional Grade – no Cottman \n\n5ml tubes\nBurnt Sienna\nPermanent Rose\nTransparent Yellow\nQuinacridone Gold\nCerulean Blue\nCobalt Blue\nUltramarine Blue\nIndigo\n\nPaper \nArches 140 cold press-CP means cold press \nFabriano cold press 140lb cold press \nSaunders Waterford. 140 lb CP \nNo Canson\, Morrilla\, or Strathmore \nBrushes \n1/2 Wash brush – flat rectangular brush – this means that the ferrule (the part that connects the hair to the wood) is 1/2 inch wide or wider. \nTwo round brushes – A large one and a small one. Unfortunately\, brush sizes are not uniform throughout the industry. \nYour large one should be no smaller than the #16 Aqua Edge by Princeton and it most definitely can be bigger. \nI like the #20 Jacksons : Artica White Tornay Synthetic brush – https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/jackson-s-artica-white-toray-synthetic-brushes-series-1302 \nRecommended Manufacturers – Robert Simons Saphire\, Winsor Newton\, Princeton\, Isabey – Jacksons\, Rosemary’s Brushes ( UK) \nSynthetic is least expensive and hold the least amount of water\, mixed synthetic and natural hair is mid range on price and amount of water it will hold and natural hair is the most expensive but holds the most water. \nIncidentals \nWhite artist tape 3/4 inch – Pro Art is good. \nFolding plastic palette – my favorite is the Mijello Bullet proof 36 Colors palette – close behind is the Mijello airtight Watercolor Palette 18 wells. Both are available on Amazon and other places. \nGatorboard – ultra heavy foam core board to use as a support if you buy single sheets of paper which is more economical rather than a block \nGood quality paper towels – Bounty or shop towels or a flour sack dish cloth \nSketching pencil – I use either a Design Ebiony Pencil or a Caran D’ache Mechanical Pencil \nWhite plastic eraser – Faber Castel or Staedler Mars Plastic \nWater container – I use an old plant container with no whole or for on the go – Faber Castel Clic and Go- but a large old Ball jar will work as well. Bigger the better.

SUMMARY:Foundational Drawing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts March 25th (Fridays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nFoundational Drawing is designed for improving drawing skills for any level of artist. Over this six-week series of classes we will discuss the tent pole principles of more successful (and repeatable) drawing\, as well as techniques you might not have previously tried and materials that could open your eyes to new forms of expression. Whether your goal is to draw finished artwork\, to improve your drawing in order to become a better painter\, or simply to draw with more confidence\, Foundational Drawing will showcase one of art’s fundamental skills and help you achieve a visual fluency with this unique form of communication. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. \nWhat to bring for the first class: Mixed-Media sketchbook approximately 11×14\, no smaller than 8.5×11 (Most brands are acceptable but prefer it not to be Borden and Riley). Also\, a couple of drawing pencils of different softness within the range of H to 4B\, and a double ended brush pen such as the Tombow Dual Brush Pen in dark grey or black. The instructor will let you know if additional materials need to be purchased as the series progresses. \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. Click HERE to review our protocols before registering for this series. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: A lifelong passion for drawing led artist Christopher Magnuson to painting in watercolor\, a medium that allows the drawing underneath to directly inform the finished product. His command of line work and energetic\, expressive drawing style elevate the drawing to an equal partnership with the paint\, in landscapes that depict the familiar\, recognizable and sometimes unconventional beauty of Maine. \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy. \nClick here for our winter weather policy.

SUMMARY:Foundational Drawing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts January 20th (Thursdays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nFoundational Drawing is designed for improving drawing skills for any level of artist. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. Click HERE to review our protocols. \n\nAbout the instructor: A lifelong passion for drawing led artist Christopher Magnuson to painting in watercolor\, a medium that allows the drawing underneath to directly inform the finished product. His command of line work and energetic\, expressive drawing style elevate the drawing to an equal partnership with the paint\, in landscapes that depict the familiar\, recognizable and sometimes unconventional beauty of Maine. \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy.

SUMMARY:Foundational Drawing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts November 4th (Thursdays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nFoundational Drawing is designed for improving drawing skills for any level of artist. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building.
