DESCRIPTION:Starts February 2nd (Mondays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for 6 weeks). \nBrush up on your skills and follow up on what was learned in Wheel Throwing Part One. (New students are welcome if they can throw a three-inch cylinder.) \nWe will review centering and throwing a cylinder and then proceed to making different bowls\, lids\, bottles\, plus trimming with a chuck and glazing. Also covered will be handles and various spouts. The instructor can demonstrate most things students are interested in or curious about. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts February 3rd (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The estimated $30* materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. SUMMARY:Beginner Bezel Setting Wednesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Wednesday\, February 4th (Wednesday mornings from 10:00AM-1:00PM for six weeks.) \nCLASS DATES: 2/4; 2/11; 2/25; 3/4; 3/11; and 3/18. (There is no class on 2/18.) \nThis course is a full overview of bezel settings\, starting with simple bezels and progressing up to custom setting unusual shapes. The first half of the series is project based. We will be making a pair of earrings\, a ring\, and a pendant. The second half of the series will be a self-designed project with instructor support. For the final project\, a selection of stones will be available but students are also welcome to bring in small stones or objects from home. This is a beginner class\, no prior metalsmithing experience is needed! \nFee does not include materials. The estimated materials fee is $40* and includes everything needed to complete the course\, including your choice of stones. After learning the basics of fabrication and repair as a bench jeweler\, she spent an inspiring year in Florence\, Italy\, taking classes in gemology\, wax carving\, rendering\, and stone setting. Many of the unique engraved finishes and detail techniques Carly uses in her designs were passed down from the expert hands of jewelers working in the traditional Italian metalsmithing style. In her sunny Westbrook\, Maine studio\, Carly spends hours twisting fine wires\, forming small beads of metal\, and engraving each piece.
