Do you want to learn playful and visually appealing techniques that will help you communicate your artistic vision? This class will instruct you in the basics of expressionist painting techniques such as washes\, scumbling\, sgraffitto\, and adding texture. You will learn about the great expressionist painters such as Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. And\, you will discover a wealth of new tools to improve your paintings through use of value\, color and composition. \nGreat for beginners who wish to learn the essentials of painting or for intermediate painters looking to break out of realism. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. SUMMARY:Foundational Drawing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Friday\, November 8th (Fridays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nClass dates: 11/8; 11/15; 11/22; 12/6; 12/13; and 12/20. THERE IS NO CLASS ON 11/29. \nFoundational Drawing with artist Chris Magnuson takes a fresh approach to improving drawing skills by introducing students to exercises\, techniques and drawing media that might be new to you\, while demystifying some aspects that might have been intimidating. \nWhether your goal is improving your painting results through better drawing\, solidifying your sketchbook or journaling projects\, or simply drawing with more confidence and authority–artists of all levels can benefit from this energetic and enjoyable exploration of art’s most fundamental skill–drawing. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. \nWhat to bring for the first class: Mixed-Media sketchbook approximately 11×14\, no smaller than 8.5×11 (Most brands are acceptable but prefer it not to be Borden and Riley). Also\, a couple of drawing pencils of different softness within the range of H to 4B\, and a double ended brush pen such as the Tombow Dual Brush Pen in dark grey or black. The instructor will let you know if additional materials need to be purchased as the series progresses. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Watercolorist Chris Magnuson loves painting\, but his passion for drawing will always come first. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts November 12th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nFee does not include materials. The required $25 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine.
