SUMMARY:Joy of Watercolor 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\, but you can join a waitlist. \nStarts Monday\, March 18th (Mondays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT INFO: Class dates will be 3/18; 4/1; 4/8; 4/22; with two classes scheduled for the final week–Monday\, April 29th and Thursday\, May 2nd). Both 3/25 and 4/15 will be skipped. \nEach week\, class will dive into one aspect of watercolor painting. Color\, water to pigment ratios\, composition\, brush strokes and value. In the beginning of each session\, students will complete several exercises on the daily topic\, and then move on to their individual painting project where they will focus on the skills we have just learned. Class is appropriate for all levels. \nMaterials not included. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nClick HERE for a PDF showing recommended basic supplies. \n\n\n \n  \n  \n\n\n\nADDITIONAL NOTE FROM DEENA: Students should purchase paper in a size they are comfortable painting on. You can purchase sheets of 140lb cold press all cotton watercolor paper. Arches\, Waterford Saunders\, Fabriano are all great brands. Three sheets should be plenty if you do not plan on painting many pieces over 11 x 14. If you do purchase sheets you will need some kind of support board and artist tape. White artist tape ( intertape) and gator board is suggested. Dick Blick Art Materials sells a 16” x 23” 1/2” thick gator board which is perfect. If you would prefer to purchase a block of watercolor paper you can and then you do not need tape or support however you will only be able to work on one thing at a time. To me this is a less economical and more restrictive way to buy paper. Watercolor blocks have more sizing on the paper than sheets of paper. \nClick HERE for a PDF showing Deena’s favorite watercolor materials. \n\nAbout the instructor: Deena S. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine\, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Deena’s work is primarily landscapes with many of her paintings done on location outside. Unfortunately\, brush sizes are not uniform throughout the industry. \nYour large one should be no smaller than the #16 Aqua Edge by Princeton and it most definitely can be bigger. \nI like the #20 Jacksons : Artica White Tornay Synthetic brush – https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/jackson-s-artica-white-toray-synthetic-brushes-series-1302 \nRecommended Manufacturers – Robert Simons Saphire\, Winsor Newton\, Princeton\, Isabey – Jacksons\, Rosemary’s Brushes ( UK) \nSynthetic is least expensive and hold the least amount of water\, mixed synthetic and natural hair is mid range on price and amount of water it will hold and natural hair is the most expensive but holds the most water. \nIncidentals \nWhite artist tape 3/4 inch – Pro Art is good. \nFolding plastic palette – my favorite is the Mijello Bullet proof 36 Colors palette – close behind is the Mijello airtight Watercolor Palette 18 wells. Both are available on Amazon and other places. \nGatorboard – ultra heavy foam core board to use as a support if you buy single sheets of paper which is more economical rather than a block \nGood quality paper towels – Bounty or shop towels or a flour sack dish cloth \nSketching pencil – I use either a Design Ebiony Pencil or a Caran D’ache Mechanical Pencil \nWhite plastic eraser – Faber Castel or Staedler Mars Plastic \nWater container – I use an old plant container with no whole or for on the go – Faber Castel Clic and Go- but a large old Ball jar will work as well. Bigger the better.
