SUMMARY:Illustrating Bouquets with Watercolor and Ink One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nSunday\, March 3rd from 10:00AM-5:00PM \nStudents of all skill levels will learn dip pen and ink techniques\, and integrate them with watercolor. We’ll begin by covering skills for drawing with pen and ink\, and watercolor techniques such as glazing\, charging\, ‘wet on wet’\, layering\, and more. You will move from short studies and exercises in the morning to a longer study in the afternoon. Rather than creating a formulaic step-by-step painting\, you will be given tools for innovation and experimentation\, and will finish the day with a totally unique painting of your bouquet. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. \nThe materials supply kit is $25 and can be purchased directly from the instructor with cash\, check\, or card. \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. The studio will be closed during this break\, but there are nearby parks where you can eat lunch if you brought your own\, or you can check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nSold out\, but you can click on the button below and follow the steps to join the waitlist at the next screen. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Claire Loon Baldwin is a Maine-based illustrator\, designer\, and storyteller inspired by the surreal beauty of nature. She spent several years working as an environmental educator and national park ranger throughout the west\, and strives to inspire wonder and reverence for the natural world with her art. In 2018\, Claire created the official centennial poster series for Grand Canyon National Park. Since then\, clients have included the Maine Audubon Society\, the Nature Conservancy\, and Down East Magazine. Claire is currently working on her first book illustration project with DK Publishing. SUMMARY:Joy of Watercolor 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\, but you can join a waitlist. \nStarts Monday\, March 18th (Mondays from 1:30PM-4:30PM for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT INFO: Class dates will be 3/18; 4/1; 4/8; 4/22; with two classes scheduled for the final week–Monday\, April 29th and Thursday\, May 2nd). Both 3/25 and 4/15 will be skipped. \nEach week\, class will dive into one aspect of watercolor painting. Color\, water to pigment ratios\, composition\, brush strokes and value. In the beginning of each session\, students will complete several exercises on the daily topic\, and then move on to their individual painting project where they will focus on the skills we have just learned. Class is appropriate for all levels. \nMaterials not included. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nClick HERE for a PDF showing recommended basic supplies. \n\n\n \n  \n  \n\n\n\nADDITIONAL NOTE FROM DEENA: Students should purchase paper in a size they are comfortable painting on. You can purchase sheets of 140lb cold press all cotton watercolor paper. Arches\, Waterford Saunders\, Fabriano are all great brands. Three sheets should be plenty if you do not plan on painting many pieces over 11 x 14. If you do purchase sheets you will need some kind of support board and artist tape. White artist tape ( intertape) and gator board is suggested. Dick Blick Art Materials sells a 16” x 23” 1/2” thick gator board which is perfect. If you would prefer to purchase a block of watercolor paper you can and then you do not need tape or support however you will only be able to work on one thing at a time. To me this is a less economical and more restrictive way to buy paper. Watercolor blocks have more sizing on the paper than sheets of paper. \nClick HERE for a PDF showing Deena’s favorite watercolor materials. \n\nAbout the instructor: Deena S. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine\, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Deena’s work is primarily landscapes with many of her paintings done on location outside.
