SUMMARY:Landscape from the Ground Up Watercolor 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts May 17th (Tuesdays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nStudents will learn about one aspect of landscape painting each week through demonstrations and exercises. To reinforce their new knowledge they will then do a small painting using the lesson of the day. Topics will include\, skies\, moving water (streams)\, reflections (still water)\, trees\, forest floor and fields and oceans. This is a great way to get ready to paint outside. Through out the class\, there will be critiques to discuss composition\, values and explore what makes a great painting. Students should have some experience using watercolor paints. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine\, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book\, Splash. Deena’s work is primarily landscapes with many of her paintings done on location outside. Both are available on Amazon and other places. \nGatorboard – ultra heavy foam core board to use as a support if you buy single sheets of paper which is more economical rather than a block \nGood quality paper towels – Bounty or shop towels or a flour sack dish cloth \nSketching pencil – I use either a Design Ebiony Pencil or a Caran D’ache Mechanical Pencil \nWhite plastic eraser – Faber Castel or Staedler Mars Plastic \nWater container – I use an old plant container with no whole or for on the go – Faber Castel Clic and Go- but a large old Ball jar will work as well. Bigger the better.

And\, you will discover a wealth of new tools to improve your paintings through use of value\, color and composition. SUMMARY:Acrylic Techniques 6-week Artist Series - THURSDAY AM
DESCRIPTION:Starts May 19th (Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.) \nThis series is a hybrid class\, with an in-person option at the studio for up to 6 attendees\, and additional seats available as remote only. All students can use the hybrid option as needed. \nArtists explore basic acrylic painting techniques in a flexible\, supportive setting. Color mixing and theories\, paint and imagery layering\, composition\, and other fundamentals are discussed. We paint and interpret from observation\, photo or printed references\, and imagination. Contemporary and past artists act as kindred spirits and influence weekly prompts. We begin with a demo and warm up canvas\, then develop ideas based on colors from one source and imagery from another (artists’ works\, participants’ own photos\, project ideas\, etc.) All levels are welcome. \nSupplies: Contact Alex before purchasing any supplies if you are new to the series. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks.
