SUMMARY:Earrings as Gifts - Saturday Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 23rd from 1:30PM-7:30PM\nParticipants will be guided through jewelry-making basics\, from selecting materials\, tool use\, and safety to cutting & shaping metal\, using the rolling mill for fun textures and soldering wire for hoops. Make up to three pairs of earrings. This course has a $35 materials fee\, which includes copper sheet for texturing and cutting out shapes\, brass and copper wire for hoops\, pre-shaped copper stampings to customize\, and sterling silver ear wires. Beginner level. (NOTE: This description was updated as of 4/13/26.) \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The estimated $35* materials fee is paid to the instructor by cash or Venmo at the beginning of the workshop. \n*NOTE: This is an approximate cost and actual kit cost may be different due to the metals market fluctuation in 2026. \n(For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have a 30-minute break\, so feel free to bring a snack. \n \n  \n\n\n  \n\nInstructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. She has been teaching Beginning Metalsmithing and other workshops at Artascope since 2016 and is thrilled to be part of a friendly & creative community. SUMMARY:Playful Patterns Printmaking One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, May 24th from 9:00AM-4:00PM\nNOTE: This workshop was rescheduled from March 29th to May 24th. \nIn this joyful\, process-focused printmaking workshop\, you’ll learn how to create vibrant repeat patterns. We will explore every step of the process including designing a motif\, carving\, inking with colorful palettes and printing. Participants are encouraged to explore\, experiment and play. Students will design\, carve\, ink and print a unique pattern design using color. You’ll learn how to create a compelling composition\, safely carve a block\, plus inking techniques and printing. Perfect for adults of all skill levels. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. Download a PDF of the materials list by clicking HERE. Note: the list shows options for printing on paper or fabric\, as different inks are used for each process. You can choose from either list for materials\, or you can choose to get all the supplies to try out both paper and fabric printmaking options. \nNOTE: This class can be messy; students are encouraged to wear play clothing or an apron. \nWe will have an hour break for lunch midday. The studio will be closed during this break\, but there are nearby parks where you can eat lunch if you brought your own\, or you can check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Maria Frati is a mixed media printmaker/painter who grew up in the woods of Maine and hails from a family of artists. Maria has exhibited work in Seattle\, Baltimore\, Asheville\, and Portland. Most recently\, she was a community teaching artist and adjunct faculty member at Meredith College in North Carolina. Maria also served as an Artist in Residence for the National Parks Foundation and taught art in NYC public schools for four years.
