SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts Tuesday\, January 18th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. In the first class on Sunday\, January 9th from 9AM-4PM\, you will design\, lay out\, and carve a signet ring in your choice of several shapes. \nWe next meet on Sunday\, January 30th from 9AM-NOON for you to clean up and finish your ring after it is cast in your choice of silver or brass. \nBasic wax carving\, tool use\, and finishing techniques will be covered. No prior metalsmithing experience necessary. \n$149 workshop fee does not include materials. She also has experience in glass production and has worked on manufacturing raw material for artists like Dale Chihuly and artist-designed pieces for artists such as Jeff Koons. Sarah works in a wide range of materials but favors ideas and teaching over all. She received a grant from Touchstone Center for the Arts to study metalsmithing\, her writing has been published by the Arts Education periodical and she has given lectures at the De Young Museum. She has been teaching Beginning Metalsmithing and other workshops at Artascope since 2016 and is thrilled to be part of a friendly & creative community.
