SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:Starts Tuesday\, November 8th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. Click HERE to review our protocols before registering for this series. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. SUMMARY:Torch Enamel Pennies One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Students will learn the basics of the ancient technique of torch firing and fusing colored powdered glass or enamel on vintage pennies by adding color to metals. Kit includes materials to create a pair of earrings and a pendant. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The $30 materials kit can be purchased at the beginning of the workshop. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch. Bring your own lunch or check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nOpen to adults only.
