DESCRIPTION:Starts November 3rd (Wednesdays\, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for 6 weeks) \nExplore sinuous coil techniques\, fun pinch pots\, and versatile soft slab projects as well as paddle pots. You’ll learn a new technique every week. Glaze your personal pieces and come away with truly unique finished pieces. For beginner level students. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. Clay will be three dollars a pound which covers basic glazing and firing costs. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. \n\nInstructor: Lee Cummings\, Maine ceramic artist \n  \nCover image shows student work.

SUMMARY:Foundations of Ceramics 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts November 3rd (Wednesdays from 6PM-9PM for six weeks.) \nEnjoy a hands-on educational and artistic experience using clay. Students will learn fundamental making and decorating techniques including wheel throwing\, handbuilding and glazing\, as well as sculpting techniques such as coil building\, pinching and handbuilding to create functional and non-functional work. Weekly projects include making cups\, bowls\, and plates. Electric kiln-firing will be available and each person will be working at his or her own level with the guidance of the instructor. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. Clay will be three dollars a pound which covers basic glazing and firing costs. \n \n  \n  \nNOTE: COVID-19 protocols are in place for the safety of our teachers and students\, including wearing masks while inside the building. \n\nAbout the instructor: Holly Holtz is a student earning her PhD in Visual Arts\, Aesthetics\, and Philosophy at the Institute for the Doctoral Studies of Visual Arts in Portland\, ME. She first experienced wheel throwing at the tender age of seven\, and has been exploring ceramics ever since. She also dabbles in painting\, sculpture\, blacksmithing\, jewelry making\, knife making\, woodworking\, screen-printing\, photography\, sewing\, felting\, mixed-media / found object collage\, and leather tooling. She never got the knack of knitting and is still a bit vexed about it. \n\nAlthough there are tools available for use in the studio\, if you prefer to have your own tools\, these are the basic materials to bring to class: \n\nBasic Pottery Tool Kit\nApron (or wear something that can get dirty)\nSmall plastic bucket\nRags\nGloves\nDust mask\n\nYou can order a Basic Pottery Tool kit from Dick Blick or a local craft store. \n  \nClick here to view our cancellation policy.
