SUMMARY:Spinner Rings - Saturday Metalsmithing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT.\nSaturday\, October 19th from 1:30PM-7:30PM\nThis workshop will guide you through the fundamentals of the metals studio\, including tools\, safety\, soldering\, filing\, and sanding\, to help you create a beautiful and unique spinner ring. This course is suitable for beginners\, and there is a $30 materials fee\, which will provide you with everything you need to complete your spinner ring. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. SUMMARY:Signet Ring Wax Carving Two-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Signet Ring Wax Carving Two-day Workshop on October 20th (full-day) and November 10th (half-day). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn the ancient technique of wax carving in this two-day workshop (9 hours total). \nIn the first class on Sunday\, October 20th from 9AM-4PM\, you will design\, lay out\, and carve a signet ring out of wax in your choice of several shapes. We will meet three weeks later on Sunday\, November 10th from 9AM-NOON for you to clean up and finish your ring after it is cast in either silver or brass. Basic wax carving\, tool use\, and finishing techniques will be covered. The casting process will occur off-site during the three weeks between classes. No prior metalsmithing experience necessary. \n$149 workshop fee does not include materials. Supply kit available from instructor for $40 on first workshop day. (For safety\, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) \nWe will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. The studio will be closed during this break\, but there are nearby parks where you can eat lunch if you brought your own\, or you can check out one of the local restaurants in the area. \nOpen to adults only. SUMMARY:Book Binding for Beginners One-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 23rd from 9:00AM-4:00PM \nCome explore the art and craft of book binding. We begin this full day book arts workshop with Calligraphic Page Design. These decorative papers will then be used to bind three beginner bindings. We will learn the anatomy of the book while we bind soft and hard covered Pamphlet Books. Then the Stab Binding\, which introduces an Eastern style of book binding. Finally\, we will explore the Accordion Artist Book and begin to express our creative ideas on the pages of this very versatile book structure. Bring your favorite poem or other inspiration to create from. \nBook-making tools will be available for use. Feel free to bring your favorite papers and collage materials. \nGreat for beginners who wish to learn the basics of paper decorating\, book binding and artist book concepts. \n$99 workshop fee does not include materials. The $25 materials kit can be purchased directly from the instructor the morning of the workshop. \nOpen to adults\, but those aged 15 and up are welcome if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. \n \n  \n  \n\nInstructor bio: Joelle Webber has spent over forty years collecting book arts techniques. Learning from mentors and book arts books as a young person\, then\, as an adult\, in workshop and university settings. At Mermaid Bindery she provides custom book binding and box making services for others\, including rebinding well loved books. Joelle enjoys writing\, paper decorating\, collage\, calligraphy\, pop-up and paper sculpting\, which she uses to illustrate her own artist books.
