SUMMARY:Foundations of Ceramics 6-week Artist Series

Students will learn fundamental making and decorating techniques including wheel throwing\, handbuilding and glazing\, as well as sculpting techniques such as coil building\, pinching and handbuilding to create functional and non-functional work. Weekly projects include making cups\, bowls\, and plates. Electric kiln-firing will be available and each person will be working at his or her own level with the guidance of the instructor. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nMasks are optional for this series. \nFee does not include materials. SUMMARY:Metalsmithing for Beginners Tuesday 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts September 19th (Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for six weeks.) \nIMPORTANT: Masks are optional\, except when using rotary tools for sanding and buffing. \nLearn the basics of jewelry metalsmithing in a fun\, relaxed atmosphere–no prior experience required. Each class will introduce tools and techniques to include hammering\, soldering\, and riveting\, as well as ways to shape and texture metal. Class projects include a hammered cuff\, fold-formed leaves and simple soldered rings as well as samples to inspire individual creativity and ways to customize projects. This series will also include important information on tool & equipment safety. A class overview can be emailed upon request \nFee does not include materials. The required $20 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor. The kit includes brass and copper in various sizes of wire and sheet\, one piece of sterling silver for a ring and some other materials to experiment with. \nOptional: A selection of sterling silver wire and ready-made bezels and stones is available for additional purchase from the instructor (not required for class projects). \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nOpen to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: Kim Round got her degree in art at Florida State University and taught jewelry workshops in Tallahassee\, FL before making the move back home to Maine. SUMMARY:Foundational Drawing 6-week Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. \nStarts Friday\, September 22nd (Fridays from 9AM-Noon for six weeks.) \nFoundational Drawing is designed for improving drawing skills for any level of artist. Over this six-week series of classes we will discuss the tent pole principles of more successful (and repeatable) drawing\, as well as techniques you might not have previously tried and materials that could open your eyes to new forms of expression. Whether your goal is to draw finished artwork\, to improve your drawing in order to become a better painter\, or simply to draw with more confidence\, Foundational Drawing will showcase one of art’s fundamental skills and help you achieve a visual fluency with this unique form of communication. \nNon-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200. \nFee does not include materials. \nWhat to bring for the first class: Mixed-Media sketchbook approximately 11×14\, no smaller than 8.5×11 (Most brands are acceptable but prefer it not to be Borden and Riley). Also\, a couple of drawing pencils of different softness within the range of H to 4B\, and a double ended brush pen such as the Tombow Dual Brush Pen in dark grey or black. The instructor will let you know if additional materials need to be purchased as the series progresses. \nNOTE: Masks are optional in this series. \n \n  \n  \n\nAbout the instructor: A lifelong passion for drawing led artist Christopher Magnuson to painting in watercolor\, a medium that allows the drawing underneath to directly inform the finished product. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the “Closing Reception” of our annual Silent Auction at Artascope Studios. As a nonprofit Art Center\, we depend on the generosity of our wonderful friends and neighbors to help us build community. We offer affordable and accessible art experiences to all and we make it easy for you to support our mission by putting together gorgeous artwork for you to purchase. Buying one of the items from our auction is a WIN WIN WIN–it benefits the artist (they receive 50% of the sale)\, it benefits you (you get the inspiring artwork for you or a loved one)\, and it benefits Artascope (with much needed capital to execute our mission). What could be better? \nBe sure to check out the 90+ artworks available in our fundraising auction\, available online until the Closing Reception. It is an impressive mash-up of creative output featuring handcrafted items and paintings from some of the best artists in Maine. Works by Eric Jacobsen\, Liz Prescott\, and Garin Baker are included\, as well as discounted art classes and beautiful jewelry and ceramics made by our members\, teachers\, and friends. \nArtwork that has not already been sold will be on view at Bickford Pavilion\, 1 Railroad Square\, Yarmouth\, Maine on Saturday\, September 23rd from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.
