Book Binding for Beginners 6-week Artist Series

September 25 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Starts September 25th (Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for 6 weeks.)

Come explore the art and craft of book binding. We begin this series of book arts classes with Decorative Paste Papers, which we will use in the next couple of classes. In the second class we will learn the anatomy of the book while we bind soft and hard covered Pamphlet Books. Next we will will strengthen our binding skills with the multi-gathering Long Stitched Book. Continuing with a different paper decorating class, we will learn Calligraphic Page Design, which will inspire us in our following class. The Stab Binding introduces a very different, Eastern style of book binding. Finally we will explore the Accordion Artist Book and begin to express our creative ideas on the pages of this very versatile book structure.

Great for beginners who wish to learn the basics of paper decorating, book binding and artist book concepts. Book-making tools will be available for use, but feel free to bring your favorite papers and collage materials.

Non-members: $250 for 6 weeks. Members: $200.

Series cost does not include materials. The required $30 materials supply kit can be purchased directly from the instructor at the first class. The kit includes pigments, papers, threads, glue book board, washi tape and other collage materials.

Open to adults, but those aged 15 and up are welcome if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
